The Northern Heights
Wednesday 31st March 2004 a walk up what's now known as the Parkland Walk. This walk is over the old Great Northern line from Kings Cross to High Barnet/Edgware. This line closed in the 1950s but freight and tube traffic used the branch until the 1970's when a bridge near Highgate needed replacing indeed today a walker can easily spot the narrow bridge on the line.
The Underground used the connection from Finsbury park to Highgate for stock transfers this line was going to be part of the Northern line at one time, the second world war broke out and the work stopped. After the war, work started again for a short period, only to stop again when new green belt restrictions which would affect the line between Edgware and Bushy Heath. Many remains are left of the old railway line, on this page you will see most of them, feel free to email me if you have any photos or information that could be added to this page (or any other page!)
