Smallbrook Junction To Wootten (Steam Railway)

In the 60's when Dr Beeching was closing the various railway lines in England a few small lines scrapped though including the small island line from Ryde to Shanklin. A few years later in the 70's a group got together to form the isle of Wight steam railway which operates over the former railway to Newport.

The Island Line today is run by the 1938 Stock these units being converted from the LU 4 Rail system to the standard 720V DC 3 Rail system.

In the late 80's British Rail decided it was time to replace the Pre 1938 Standard stock (Seen Below) on the Isle Of Wight. The standard had been on the Island since the 1960's as was only meant to last ten or so years in fact the standard stock lasted until 1990 when replaced by Units of 1938 Stock. 9 Units plus 1 spare unit were delivered to British rail metals then taken to the Island.
